Small cell lung cancer stage 4

Hi

My mum has been diagnosed with stage 4small cell lung cancer ,it spread to her lymph nodes and small spots on her liver, she has had her first set of chemo and it has seemed to Shrink it, her energy has come back and she’s up and about but recently she had a chest infection and since then she’s gone down hill, she has a scan on Thursday to see if it’s spread, I’m really scared to lose my mum she is my best friend, when she first got diagnosed she didn’t take it well and collapsed a few times which was really hard for about a month I didn’t leave her side cooking for her etc,is there any advice on how to cope with someone going through this? I’ve tried building her spirits up but it’s like she’s giving up which breaks me.

  • Hello Snouts.

I'm sorry to read of your Mum's illness which brings you here. It sounds understandable that you're both struggling with things at the moment, particularly given that Mum has a scan upcoming.

There's no right nor wrong way to feel when facing these things. Although easier said than done, try to take things one day at a time. Sometimes looking too far ahead can leave us feeling overwhelmed and anxious.
