Fathers first Chemo treatment now in hospital with pneumonia

My dad has had Odeoma in both feet for many weeks now but since my dad went into hosptial on boxing day this has greatly improved both the redness and swelling of calves and feet has greatly reduced and they had an infection / sores in both feet this has all progressed in the right direction.

However before my dad had his first chemo he was still on antibiotics for the infection related to the odeoma which the nurse on the day Okayed this my mum made this very chear about the antibiotics being in progress along with the doctor the week prior my dads first chemo treatment.

early stages of sepsis, theyre were several four or five they were thinking diabetes with the blood sugar levels fluxuating which have levelled of.

chest infection now they tell us it's pneumonia, I can only assume from the point of ignorance that a chest infection is prior sings to pneumonia but this was never made apparent to us.

From what I've been reading since Friday a PPV should have been administered two weeks before the chemo started as my Dad is 68 and because of the treatment more suseptible from pneumonia along with being over 65 these two factors should have meant my dad would have been offered this. However this is something that was never mentioned and the doctors at the hospital have not asked if my dad had been administered however this was not the case.

The doctors have put my dad on antibiotics for the pneumonia on Wednesday but on Friday they said this was the third day and they were having no effect and they said the words no one wants to hear 'its not looking good'. Yet my dad has his ECG yesturday and passed so the ECG was good news.

It's my understanding that my dad is now on his third lot of antibiotics in a matter of weeks could this also mean the current run of these will be less effective against the pneumonia and why wasn't a PPV offered and antibiotics have not been perscribbed prior to infections.

The chemo drug docetaxel printout we were supplied and the macmillan understanding chemotherapy do not mention the PPV vacination is even sold from Boots for £70.

My dads next chemo was due on Tuesday but my understanding is now he will be on a chemo break till fit and healthy.
