Dad has terminal cancer

Hello all,

You’re all inspiring people.  You all have such strength. My Mum was diagnosed with breast cancer and two months later my Dad was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer.  Mum has completed her treatment and is doing well.  My Father, on the other hand, has completed his chemo, but has started to deteriorate.  I saw him today and found it really difficult not to burst into tears when I saw him.  He looks so gaunt and ill.  I’m in my final year of uni and I’m worried that he won’t last until I graduate.  Does anyone have any advice on coping with a terminally ill parent whilst studying for final exams?  And how to cope with seeing someone you love suffer?  It breaks my heart.

Thank you in advance xx

  • Hi Verity, it's nice to have you with us although I'm sorry for what you and your parents have been through.

It can be heart-breaking to see the impact cancer can have on someone we love and hold so dear as many of our members have sadly found out, but hopefully some of them will reply soon to offer their support and advice.

I have had a quick look around the forum and wanted to put you in touch with [@kate06]‍ as she is in a similar quandary. [@lucydoc__]‍ also went through something similar earlier this year so hopefully they'll both pop by when they can to chat about their experiences but do be sure to let your university know about your situation as I'm sure they will do all they can to accommodate you and your studies during this difficult time.

    Kind regards,
