Hysterectomy abandoned

My mum has a cyst on her ovary and had elevated ca125 levels and her CT scan showed some suspicious cells in her omentum so the MDT team suggested the best action was to have a total hysterectomy and removal of the omentum. Her first op was cancelled a month ago and she had the op today. However the consultant said that when they operated, the tissue could not be removed and he just took a biopsy. He is now talking about chemo and a possible op after that. My mum is 85 and apart from this is well. Im speaking to the consultant tomorrow but am going frantic worrying that if it couldn’t be removed then is chemotherapy realistic given her age. Is this course of action normal and what might the prognosis be. I know I’m speaking to consultant tomorrow but am really worried.

  • Hello Gillyflower141,

I noticed you hadn't yet received a reply so just wanted to pop by and welcome you to our forum. I am sorry to hear that your mum's hysterectomy had to be abandoned. Do you know when you get results from the biopsy? I hope others who have been in a similar situation will come and chat to you soon and share their experience.

You will by now have spoken to the consultant and I hope you are feeling a little less worried and that you have some definite answers. What did the consultant advise if you don't mind me asking?

Should you wish to talk things through with our nurses at any point, you are welcome to ring them on this free number 0808 800 4040 - their line is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm (though closed 24-26 December and on New Year's Day)

Keep us updated if you can on how thing go for your mum. I am keeping everything crossed for you that the results were better than you expected.

    Best wishes,
