need help!!

My dad has prostate cancer which is attempted to be removed on Wednesday 21st of this month. He was sent home thursday with no concerns and positive the cancer has been removed succesfully. The last few days he has been in severe pain in the lower half of his body around groin and lower back. This morning he became very faint went pale white/yellow, shivers & sweating and fever and was again in extreme lower pain. He was sent home with no pain killers and was told to just take paracetamol which isnt touching the pain at all! Every time he stands up he gets more and more pain with a heavy, throbbing, painful feeling. I dont think he was explained to properly how much pain he was expected to be in and what to expect for the next few weeks. He also has a catheter but seems fine. I am a healthcare assistant so theyre only so much i can do to help him. Does anyone know what I can do? Is this normal? Anyone thats experienced the same? Please help! I phoned 111 but werent overly concerned but something just doesnt seem right. If anyone has any advice or knows anything please let me know. Thankyou

  • Your Dad shouldnt be in so much pain. I am not a doctor but it seems wrong to me. I would ring the oncology ward.

    Good luck x

  • Thankyou, exactly! A doctor came out earlier to see him and passed him off as fine even though he’s pale & faint and in constant pain, I’m a little confused but suppose they’re the experts. Just doesn’t seem right to be in that much pain when standing up or after eating etc. They’ve now given him codiene to take with paracetamol just doesn’t seem enough. My dads an ex rugby player never complains of pain so he must be suffering badly. They seem to think it’s due to the operation being 4hours long and having air blown inside during too and so much anaesthetic, it’s not comfortable but can’t be unbearable?? Working in care myself his catheter should not be hurting him the way it is? I don’t know...just concerned

  • Why not try messaging the Macmillan nurses on their site? Or the Ask the Nurses section on this one. You need proper specialist advice.

I cant imagine how distressing this is for you, to watch someone you care about going through it and to be quite honest, in this day and age, I would have thought that it shouldnt be happening.
