recurring melanoma treatment

I am new to this forum. My husband's melanoma has come back for the 4th time.  He's still healing from the 3rd surgery on his head. Now he has about 12 small new spots of melanoma around his ear.  We were told if surgery is possible it would require skin grafts.  He is a Kaiser member so we don't feel like we have the the most informed team.  I think the surgeon is great, but they don't seem to have any specialists in melanoma.  I'm not sure how to go about or who to ask for a 2nd opinion outside of Kaiser.  The oncologist we saw said she recommends T-Vec.  Is that the same as immunotherapy? Are there different kinds of TVEC? The results I've seen on line don't look encouraging.  After a CT scan for something else they noticed a spot on his liver this past week.  They said it might be a hemangioma and he has an appt in a few weeks for an MRI.  I don't know if it's possibly melanoma or if there is any spread.  He had a clean PET scan on 8-28, but the cancer came back so quickly I'm very concerned. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

  • Welcome to Cancer Chat Valerie although I'm really sorry your husband is having to deal with melanoma for a fourth time.

As we're a UK based forum it's a bit difficult for us to suggest on where you could go for a second opinion but you may be able to get some advice and information from the American Cancer Society and the National Cancer Institute.

I'm also including a link to the MPIP forum on the Melanoma Research Foundation website as you'll be able to chat with others about your husband's journey and recommended course of treatment.

I hope this helps and that you're able to get some answers to your questions soon Valerie.

    Kind regards,
