Stage 4 Ovarian Cancer

Hi . I'm new to the site but I'm really hoping I can get some help or thoughts on what to expect with my mum.

She was diagnosed a few weeks ago with stage 4 ovarian cancer which can't be operated on. She has had her first chemotherapy last Friday and the hospital want to give her 6 sessions if she can take it. On top of this she also has short term memory loss which causes alot of confusion.

Since her first treatment my father has been taken to hospital with heart problems and is now being kept in until they do certain procedures.

Myself or my brother are currently with mum 24/7 whilst dads in hospital. We've noticed these past few days her pain in her side has increased alot and she's sleeping more. Will this be due to the chemotherapy or the actual cancer? She's flinching alot with the pain aswell. She's currently only taking paracetamol for the pain. She had diazepam before bed which seems to be helping at the moment.

Just not sure what to expect at the moment the nights always seem to be worse aswell .

  • Hi my mum had stage 4 ovarian cancer. Its a very tough time so be kind to your self. My mum suffered with short term memory loss and just that alone is really hard, it started after her first round of chemo. If my mum asked questions or told us something we just acted like it was the first time she had asked or told us as reminding her she had already asked seemed to upset her more. But you will work out how to handle it. My mums overall condition was to poor to have surgery so the plan was 6 rounds of chemo then assess to see if surgery was an option.

As for the pain your mum your mum is getting could you speak to the dr and explain your concerns and see if anything is available for the pain.

If you have any more questions, im happy to answer as best as i can take care.
