Pancreatic Cancer

Hi all, my lovely Dad was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer back in May, however they never told us what Stage but as far as the scans showed, it had not spread, however he was given months to live.  My Dad is 80, so surgery was not an option, even though he desperately wanted it.  He's had about 6 or 7 rounds of Chemo.  At first, he had no side effects which was fantastic, however, he was hospitalised for 3 weeks with erratic heart rate, low neutrophils and high blood pressure which they were struggling to control.  He's on heart pills, injections for blood clots and antibiotics for an infection (neurotropenic sepsis).  This has all been caused by the chemotherapy.  We have now been told that chemo will have to stop.  We are all devastated!!  My dad thinks well thats it, they've given up and is so stressed.  We now don't know what to expect and how long we have left.  I especially am scared of the thought of losing my Dad and what affect this is going to have on my mum and the rest of the family.  :(.

  • I'm really sorry about your dad's situation sparkle. I can't begin to imagine how difficult this must be for you all.

Would it be possible, with your dad's permission, to speak to hs medical team directly to try and find out what to expect and how long he may have left? They will be in the best position to let you know but we do have some general information about what to look out for when that time draws near. I hope this helps but it can be a tough read so I'd recommend looking through only when you feel you are ready to do so or maybe when you have someone with you.

I'm not sure if you've come across this already but just in case you haven't I'm going to include a link to the pancreatic cancer uk website as they have a freephone number you can call as well as a forum just like ours where you can chat to others about this.

    Best wishes to you all,
