Mum diagnosed secondary breast cancer in spine & bones

Hi there just came across this after working up the gumption to ask google ..My Mum has just been diagnosed 2 days ago with secondary breast cancer in her spine & bones.  She is a young at heart 74 year old.  7 years ago she was diagnosed with stage 4 aggressive breast cancer and had both chemo & radiotherapy immediately and a mastectomy to her right breast.  2 new complete knee replacement  done in the last 18 months now this !? She had lost approx 4 stone in 12 months but I put that down to grieving over the death of my Dad last April.  Consultant told us unfortunately it cannot be treated this time and he was sorry .. what does that mean exactly ?! Anxious Lily

  • Welcome to the forum Lilybee70 although I'm sorry about your mum's diagnosis,

Your mum's consultant will be in the best position to explain what they meant so if you have her permission be sure to ask them about this and any other questions that may be playing on your mind.

Many of our members have found themselves coming to terms with similar outcomes and hopefully some of them will be along soon to offer their support and advice.

If you'd like to discuss this with someone in person, feel free to give our cancer nurses a call. Their number is 0808 800 4040 and their phone lines are open Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m.

    Kind regards,
