Dad ? Lung mets?

So my dad had laryngeal cancer last year which was luckily treated with laser treatment. For the last few months he has had a persistant cough and to me been tired but stubbornly denies this. (He often has day naps but says it its because hes up coughing at night). I told him to mention this at his last appointment in ENT and they sent him for a chest xray and urgent CT scan. He had a CT scan of his thorax on wednesday and has been called back on Tuesday to see the ENT consultant who has requested this? His secretary rung him on the Friday (2 days after).

From the research i have looked at, its a high risk of spreading to lungs after a throat cancer. I work as a nurse and pretty damn sure we are expecting bad news. I hope not but absolutely panicking.

Any advice welcome.

  • Hello Clairecauv,

I just wanted to warmly welcome you to our forum. I am really sorry to hear about your dad and I hope the appointment with the ENT consultant goes well. We are keeping everything crossed for him - do pop back here and let us know what the consultant said.

It won't be long now until you get some definite answers as to what is causing this persistent coughing. Try to resist doing too much research - I know it is really hard especially as being a nurse, you have yourself a lot of medical knowledge and interest- but Google has a habit of bringing up all the worst case scenarios which can often make us even more worried and makes us anticipate the worst.

I hope you don't have to wait too long now until you find out more. We'll be thinking of you and your dad in the coming days.

    Best wishes,
