Terminal bile duct cancer

Hi well where too start .

My mum just been told she has bile duct cancer and its terminal .it all started about 18 months ago mum was ill and they saud it was an infection in her gallbladder so was treated for that and she was fine then a week later she went jaundice and was ill again so bk in to hospital where they found gallstone and did a procedure to put a stent in.my was in for a week and was fine again all scans shown infection.then in November last year she was ill again with a infection in the gallbladder .she had loads of scans and ercp done .then feb this year she had a leak from a liver which made the bile come out of her liver into her abdomen and was very poorly with it the doctor told us that there was something in her bile duct and he  thought it was cancer but most of the test was not showing cancer .then the biopsy results came  back  clear and mum got better putting the weight back on that she lost and doing everything she did before she got ill so the doctor Falls this is not acting like bile duct cancer but wanted to find out what was in a bile duct .so he sent her  to a hospital that did the spyglass camera which was 2 weeks ago. They tried to do the procedure but could not get in further enough because they found the mass and took biopsies of it and we was told that it was  cancer so for my mum having something small in her bile duct to now havin a mass and been told she got 3 to 6 months to live how does this happen how can all the test not show it befor now

  • Welcome to the forum Nicg although I'm sorry to read that your mum has been diagnosed with bile duct cancer and that it's terminal.

I think a lot of questions pop up when situations like these happen so do make sure you sit down with her medical team at some point to get any lingering questions about this answered.

I know there isn't anything I can say to make this situation any better for you both but I want you to know that our forum members will understand what you're both going through at the moment having been on similar journeys themselves and hopefully you'll hear from some of them soon.

    Best wishes to you both,
