journey of glioblastoma

My son and his wife are both 30 and been married for 6 years waiting to have their time together for 5 years and have a baby aged 30. they have their own house, work full time and are good honest lovable couple.their dream of having a baby came true when they went to Morroco and my daughter in law became pregnant. All went well until 11 days before my granddaughters birth when my son rang to say he was waiting for an ambulance as he thought his wife was having a stroke. when we got her to hospital a brain tumour was diagnosed by further investigation leading to glioblastoma stage 4 . her baby daughter was delivered 2 days after diagnosis by section followed 6 days later by surgery to remove the tumour and then oral chemo and 30 treatments of radiotherapy.

She has had stevens johnson syndrome following 2 months of anti epeleptic medication  so that was stopped as well as her chemo. every day is a reward she is here and her 3 month old daughter is the icing on the cake. she has been given 12 to 14 months prognosis. i stay every day and alternate nights so she is never alone due to fitting and caring for her daughter. dont know what to expect but she is positive and has a geat faith so each day is a blessing.

  • Hi lcunnington,

I noticed you hadn't had a reply yet so I just wanted to stop by and welcome you to the forum.

I'm sorry to read of the bittersweet journey your son and daughter in law are on at the moment but I'm really pleased that your grand-daughter was delivered safely and that your daughter in law is staying positive and is able to create some lovely memories with you all.

Hopefully other members who have been on similar journeys will stop by soon to offer their support and share their experiences with you but if you have any questions, feel free to give our cancer nurses a call. Their lines are open Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m on 0808 800 4040.

Wishing you and your family all the best at this time.

    Kind regards,
