Back again! Looking for advice!

Hi all

I was here last year after my dad died following an 11 year battle with bladder cancer.

Unfortunately last month my boyfriend was diagnosed with testicular cancer which has spread to his lymph node in his stomach. He is 30, usually very fit and healthy (we did the Yorkshire three peaks twice earlier this year!) And now he's on chemo. We've not been given any staging information, just told that he will have yhis combined chemo drug for 9wks which he started 4wks ago now and that he will then have surgery to remove his testicle.

My worry right now is that I have quite a low immune system so am terrified that if I get ill pass it on to him. He was in hospital a couple of weeks ago with a blood clot caused by his PICC line and then the week after that ended back up in hospital with an infection for which he needed 5 days of IV antibiotics and a 2 blood transfusions due to his white blood cells and heamoglobin levels getting so low.

I work in an office with air con, in a glass building where the windows don't open so once somebody gets a cold it flies round so easily and with over 200 people on our floor, it spreads far and wide! I have had a bit of a sore throat for a few days so am on vitamin c, echinacea and cold tablets just in case! I bought surgical masks to wear near him if it gets worse but living together, its difficult to ensure that I don't pass anything on!

Does anyone have any suggestions at all?

Many thanks in advance

  • Hi

I'm sorry to hear your troubles. I think if you take all the usual precautions. Wash your hands. Use hand gel. Sleep in different rooms. Get your boyfriend to gargle with warm salty water. If you look up Mc Millan they might be able to help further. I hope your boyfriend manages with the chemo and beats this
