Bowel cancer

Hi so my dad was diagnosed with bowel cancer stage 4 just 2 months ago. For the past 1/2 years they have been treating him for gastroenteritis (misdiagnosis) so we were all in a state of shock when we found out he had cancer for 12-18 months. I am only 16 years old and to be honest I don’t really know what to do right now. He was coughing blood up just last night and doctors have told me and my family that there is nothing they can do as he has already lost 25-30kg and is not healthy enough for chemotherapy. I’m not ready to lose him and I don’t know what to do. He can’t eat as he vomits it all back out. I just wish we had a miracle and his cancer just disappeared.

  • Welcome to the forum Amina although I'm really sorry to read that the doctors have said there is nothing more that can be done for your dad.

I think you echo the thoughts of many members here who are looking after loved ones with a cancer diagnosis and I'm sure some of them will reply soon to offer their support and advice.

Riprap is a website that helps teenagers cope when a parent has cancer so do have a look when you can as they also have a forum where you can catch to others your age about what you are going through. You may find the support channels available on this website helpful as well.

I know there isn't anything I can say or do that will make this situation any better but I want you to know that the Cancer Chat community are here for you and will do what they can to help you at this time.

    Kind regards,
