Waldenstrom Macroglobulinemia

Hi All.

I am after some help and advise if possbile. My Dad has Waldenstrom Macroglobulinemia and has had it for 5 years, over the weekend he advised me he now has less than 12 months left after his latest check up. He is an old style person and keeps everything in, stoborm and very proud. I can see the changes in him from this cancer. My question is really how will I know when its getting too much for him, he lives alone and does not tell people about his health. What will be the tell tale signs if any that be is getting into the last 6 months, last 3 months etc. has anyone else cared for someone with this form if cancer, any pointers would be gratefully acceped.

Kind Regards,

SFitzgerald

  • Hi SFitzgerald,

I'm sorry to hear that your dad has told you that after his latest check up he may have less than 12 months left. We have some general information on our website about what may happen in the last weeks and days which includes what signs to look out for as the time draws near but do feel free to give our cancer nurses a call about this as it may differ slightly with your dad's diagnosis. They are available Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m on 0808 800 4040.

If you're looking to connect with others you may like to chat with [@anna272727]‍ as her uncle has recently been diagnosed or [@Dununited]‍ who posted in February looking for others with this type of cancer. You may also find some good information and advice on the Waldenstrom Macroglobulinemia UK website so do have a look when you can.

I hope this helps SFitzgerald and I wish you and your dad all the best for the year ahead.

    Kind regards,
