My mother and Cancer

Hello!

I am new to the forum and I thought I would introduce myself and see if anyone else out there is going through a similar experience, and who can offer some advice, etc.

My mother was diagnosed with tonsil cancer as well as cancer of the lymph nodes earlier this year, and she is quite a way through her treatment of chemoradiotherapy. She is doing very well, although despite being an extremely strong woman, it's getting her down pretty badly.

It's just me and her, so it's been difficult, especially with me being at university, and due to this I have been getting counselling, which has helped enormously, as well as support from a couple of family members.

The treatment has caused difficulty in particular to eat - I wonder if anyone has any advice for any recipe books I could look out for, or websites? Anything would be a huge help!

If anyone has had a similar cancer diagnosis and wishes to give any much-needed advice, or even if you would just like to chat, I'm sure either myself or my mother would be happy to hear from you.

Thank you.

  • Hi rose , and welcome to our little chat room ...

I have breast cancer and a grade three .. I had a mastectomy last July... one thing that got me through, even more then my amazing family, was the others on here ... family imagine what having cancer is like .. that's all we did before we got it ... but everyone on here is either cancer patients or carers ... so on here whatever you write about ... feelings, treatment, highs and the lows ... there's always someone who has been through that ..

I think cancer changes us, and in some ways it makes us look at the world differently, while inside wer just the same ... we've all been scared at some point .. but on here, it's not just the sad side of cancer .. we have chats about everything ... we can even laugh at something amusing in a world where it is very crule at times .. we hold each other's hand when someone is feeling low ... or lost .. or lonely ...

I have got some amazing buddies I found on here, that without cancer I would have never known ... l feel honoured to have got to know them .. they've held me up and yes even made me laugh .. my life is richer having them as vertual buddies... if your mum would like to post here I'm sure she would find it helps her when your away .. if she wants to she can press on my photo and it will go to my page and if she puts in a friend request I'll chat to her when she needs it .. or if she'd just like to post to all, I'm sure others will pop on to chat to her too .. everyone is made welcome .. and she may find it helpfull to answer others too .. who are struggling on this journey of ours ...
