Hi

I don't know if talking here will help or not.

My partner has just been diagnosed with bladder cancer and is having an op on Friday. It all seems so sureal. I have no idea how I'm feeling.....just numb.

I don't know what to expect or how he will need caring for. We only found out last week so have not had a chance yet to speak to anyone about what will happen.

  • Hi there ...

It's always a scary time when waiting for things to begin ... You could phone the free phone number on here or McMillan and you can talk to someone about your worries ... I used them a couple of times in the early days and they helped me ...

It's all a bit of whirlwind and we feel like it's taking us on a journey we have no control over ... But give them a ring .. write down any questions you may have so you don't forget .. Chrissie x

  • Thanks Chrissie

It is very scary.....fear of the unknown. I will use the numbers if I need to.

Hopefully we'll get more info on Friday/Saturday.

    xx

  • Hi again

Nearly 2 months down the line and A has had 2 operations.

One to remove a 5cm grade 3 high aggresive tumour from the bladder lining.

The second op was a check to make sure they'd got it all and to take a biopsy of the muscle wall.

Results were clear so contained on the lining (best place).

Now he starts BCG treatment.....a 6 week course followed by another operation then maybe another 6 week course.

Treatment could be on going but may get spaced out over the years or just need annual checks eventually but he'll never be discharged.

We're just getting on with it nothing much else we can do.

  • Hi there and thanks for up date as I do miss some replies..

Your both on this scary cancer rollercoaster ride that lots of us are on .. we just need to hold on tight ... ride out the downs and appropriate the ups .. they are there if you look for them ...

You'll both be having lots of emotions through this ride, but you need them to get through .. let them out, then come back ready for the next day .. it is doable and keeping everything in balance will help you through .. listen to each other, and never let go of each other's hand ..

I know your doing well and so proud of you ...but If it gets tough just close your eyes, look round, wer all there right with you ... sending a big hug ... chrissie
