Stage 4

Hi everyone, my grandma has stage 4 cancer, this is in her lungs, bladder, lmyph nodes and she also has more in her stomach area but I cant remember of the top of my head. The first set of chemo worked well and the cancer/tumors had shrunk and it had practically gone from her lungs. However after the second round of chemo it had all came back a lot worse. She is having radio therapy and has just finished 10 days in a row. My concern is how poorly she is, the radio seems to have caused a lot of damage and she is very unwell, she is struggiling to walk, to eat and many other things. I was just wondering if all these awful things are due to the radio or if it is the cancer progressing? Obviously we are aware she will never get rid of this but I wasn't expecting she would be this ill. Any kind of help or supposrt would be great. Thanks you.

  • Welcome to the forum Sammm although I'm sorry to read about your grandma's cancer diagnosis and that the second round of chemo was unsuccessful.

I'm including some general information we have on our website about the side effects of radiotherapy for you to have a look at but do feel free to give our cancer nurses a call about this as well. Their freephone number is 0808 8000 4040 and are available Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m.

We have many members on the forum that have been in this situation with their nearest and dearest and hopefully some of them will be along soon to offer their support and share their experiences with you.

Best wishes to you and your grandma at this time,
