GBM4 and morning paranoia

Hello

Mum (71) has a GBM4 in the left temporal lobe Wernickes area. She is becoming very paranoid, particularly in the mornings. She wakes up and tells us something dreadful has happened and she needs to call the police. She can't tell us what the dreadful thing is though but is clearly distressed. She is in a care home for 2 weeks whilst my father has a much needed break. She called me this morning to say that the staff are abusive although I can't believe this this is the case having met them.

Has anyone else had experience of this?

All the best...

  • Hello Mrsjc,

I’m sorry to hear that your mum is waking feeling so distressed in the mornings, it must be such a worry.

I noticed you’d chatted to [@Trillian]‍about her husband’s GBM4 diagnosis recently, so I wondered if she might have any thoughts on this. It can really help to talk to someone who’s in a similar situation.

The other thing I wanted to suggest was that you have a chat with your mum’s medical team to see if the behaviour you’ve described could be related to her brain tumour. We also have a team of cancer nurses who’d be only too happy to talk through what you’re going through – you can reach them on 0808 800 4040 (Mon – Fri, 9am – 5pm).

Finally, I’m including a link to a page from the Age UK website about Protection from abuse, which provides some good information about what to do if you’re unsure or worried about someone. The Age UK Advice Line (0800 678 1174) may well be of help.

Wishing you and your family all the best,

    Helen
