Living with metatastic rcc

My mum has metatastic RCC and has been on Sutent for over 21 months. Her oncologist is wonderful and supportive and here are some key things we have found out during this period. Her cycle is 2 weeks on one week off not 4 weeks on 2 weeks off. She starts with a medium dose and then a higher dose and then has a week off. This has improved her rate of toleration from 7 days without problems to nearly 14 days so a much better quality of life. Her hands were skinning and we tried everything - Atrixo intensive care cream works for her. She now sews and knits again.  She also has kefir every day - the Bioful cherry smoothie - it helps her tolerate the treatment, keeps her gut biome good and she is able to eat more meals without so many mouth ulcers. She is weak some days during the cycle but has learned to just rest and stay calm. She watches her favourite Tv programmes, listens to her fav music and has gentle visits from close friends and family. If this info helps anyone else then we will be very glad for you.

  • Hello Alicesav,

As I noticed this is your first post with us I just wanted to stop by and welcome you to the forum and to thank you for posting.

I'm sorry to hear about your mum but I'm glad that she seems to be getting on in spite of all the challenges. That she is coping will certainly offer encouragement to many here who are going through a similar situation and I hope you will very soon hear from them.

Until then, feel free to post as much as you want and join the discussions going on here.

With best wishes to you and your mum,
