Prostate cancer

Hi everyone this is my first post my husband was diagnosed in 2015 and had radical surgery followed by radiotherapy he is now 2 years into a course of bicalutamide most of the side effects he\we are dealing with well but he has developed a lot of breast tissue and it's this that is causing him to be quite depressed I'm sure a lot of people will think this is trivial but to him it's not can anyone help by sharing their experience of biclutamide and the long term effects when the course is finished? He has one more year on the drug we would be grateful for any information .

  • Hello MillyT.  I know nothing of biclutamide and could not find any mention of it in the search part of this forum.  I did however find (in MacMillan website) a discussion during which one lady talks about her husband's experience of taking this so am attaching a link which may be of interest.  Also, as the post was made not so long ago - last October - you may be able to contact the poster.

    Best wishes.  Annie

  • Hi Milly and welcome to Cancer Chat.

I'm sorry to hear that your husband has developed a lot of breast tissue as a result of the bicalutamide but I just wanted to assure you this is a common side effect and will disappear over time. We have some more information about this on our website just here.

There hasn't been too much discussion about this on the forum lately but I still wanted to put you in touch with [@Bobbase]‍ and [@markmark]‍ as they both have experience of bicalutamide - either themselves or looking after a family member that has taken it - and now I've mentioned them in this post they will hopefully pop back on the forum to say hello and share their experiences with you.

I also wanted to signpost you to the prostate cancer uk website as they also have an online community and you may have more luck connecting with others with a more recent experience of taking this cancer drug on there.

I hope this helps MillyT and I wish your husband all the best with the rest of his treatment.

    Kind regards,
