Prostate cancer

Hi I look after a 94 gentleman who has had prostate cancer for a few years he hasn't had treatment. The last 4 years he has been having a lot of pain in his hip and was advised he would need a hip replacement. However these last few months the pain has been excruciating and last week he had a bone scan and it has been revealed the cancer has spread into his hip/groin. They have said they will do the hip operation but are worrying about what they will find when they cut him open and there is a one in ten chance he won't survive the op.  There aren' any painkillers that will even touch the pain he is in and the quality of his life has decreased dramatically since Christmas. Is there anything out there that could make him more comfortable and ease the pain.

  • Hi Jacks62 and welcome to the forum.

I'm sorry to read that his prostate cancer has spread to his hip/groin and about the pain he is suffering from. Have you asked his medical team about the painkillers? If not, do have a chat with them and let them know how much pain the gentleman is in as they should be able to provide something to make it more manageable. You can have a quick chat with one of our cancer nurses about this as well if you like. Their number is 0808 800 4040 and are available Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m.

    Kind regards,
