daughter coping

Hi there,

I'm currently 17 years old, unfortunately my dad has been diagnosed with invasive throat cancer that has spread to the shoulder area. He is undergoing intensive chemo and radiotherapy from what i've gathered every day for 6weeks. My family are usually extremely private about these things and my dad doesn't like talking about it even though he is visually upset.

I'm struggling to cope and unfortunately have taken on their characteristic traits of not speaking to anyone. I would really appreciate it if someone could tell me about their experience or familial experience with cancer/chemo. You are all warriors x thank you

  • Hi Donnie

I too was very young when my mum was diagnosed and came from a tight lipped, stiff upper lip household. In fact I only found out my mum had cancer as I over heard my older brother talking to my uncle.

You must not keep this all in. Hopefully you have some good friends to confide in and also utilise suppprt from cancer research and Macmillan. They have specialist people to support you through this. It’s REALLY important you don’t suffer this on your own.

You sound incredibly strong and an inspiration to be able to put your story on here.

Good luck with finding someone to talk it through.
