Palliative Chemotherapy for Lung Cancer.....

Hello, please help,

My eldest sister who is 65 has been diagnosed with lung cancer by oncologist in Ethiopia.

She has been asthmatic for most of her adult life & no one knew about her lung situation.

She is now told by oncologists that her cancer is a in stage 4 and it is a primary cancer and all her other organs are clear of the symptom.  The assessments also states that it is:  Adenocarcinoma with pleural involvement.

Her advisor further wrote a summary and stated the following:

- ECOG= 0

- Decreased air entry & dullness on Rt lower chest

- Pedal & pretibial trace pitting edema

They suggested the following as a treatment:

- Intermittent Pleural tap

- Palliative Chemotherapy (cisplatin + Paclitaxol)

- Pain control.

Do you think her cancer can be controlled?  Can her cancer be treated?

I greatly look forward for your kind advice.

  • Welcome to the forum Mike although I'm sorry to read that your sister has been diagnosed with lunc cancer.

Your sister's medical team are in the best position to answer your questions as they have access to her medical files and history so if you're able to get your sister's permission maybe you can arrange to have a chat with them about your sister's outlook based on her diagnosis?

Hopefully some of our members will be along to offer their support and share their experiences but if you would like to have a chat with one of our nurses about your sister's case do feel free to give them a call next week. Their freephone number is 0808 800 4040 and will be available between 9a.m - 5p.m from Tuesday onwards.

    Best wishes to you both,
