A story to give you hope

When I was 13 my dad was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer. It started in his lungs and spread to his brain.  His doctors said he had 9 months to live.  At 13 I read nearly all posts on this forum and balled my eyes every day and night. I am 21 now and here I am back at this forum. My dad began his treatment for cancer with radiation , they did one brain surgery and removed one of the masses that had metastasized. He then recovered mircaculously and was the only patient on that floor in the hospital who was able to walk around less than 24 hours after surgery. He was considered a miracle patient. He then underwent chemotherapy for the lungs for a few months and then they stopped. After stopping chemotherapy the oncologists prescribed him a chemotherapy pill. After two years the neurologist saw the second mass in his brain had grown large enough to be operated on (something like 2 mm more). My dad then got brain surgery number 2 and had a seizure during the surgery.

I am 21 now, my dad is still ALIVE he is still fighting cancer 8 1/2 Years later. He is different, I will agree with other posts on this forum saying their loved ones changed because I see it too. It’s hard to place yourself in their shoes where they have had to sacrifice possibly their job, license, and most importantly their independence. There is always hope, my dad is reliant on a walker now but he is still here, we’ve always had love, hope and joy to share with him to support him every step of the way. Lastly, my dad will soon be dropped, in the upcoming months by his doctors because he is “the miracle patient” he has outlived any other patients with his diagnosis.

Don’t give up on your loved ones, a little bit of hope takes you a long way!
