Mentality

Hi I am 21 and my mum has secondary bone cancer, it was mis diagnosed as sciatica for a very long time therefore has spread to an extreme amount of the body from head to toe. Up untill now with various trips in and out of hospital and knock backs almost every week regarding complications of treatments etc, her mentality has deteriorated, we have drink supplements from the hospital that are 300kcal a bottle but she barely finishes one a day, she won’t eat anything & everyday is a battle as we don’t want to feel as though it’s forcing but if she continues to loose weight they will be reluctant to do chemo, nothing seems to persuade her. I feel as though she is giving up and has lost sight of why we want her to eat, though understandable as she is in pain all day everyday. I get it, in that situation would I feel like giving up too?

  • HelloJhowcc.  So sorry about your mum - the misdiagnosis, and now the worry about her losing weight.  I don't have any experience of the particular situation you mention but I think that (a) you could ring the nurses here on 0808 800 4040 as they may provide some useful insight, and (b) talk with your mum's care team to see what they think and if they can help.    Perhaps your mum needs more pain relief?  It may be that the situation can be turned around so I would sound out the people with experience of this. I am hoping that others with more experience than myself on this forum will be able to advise you also.  This must be so difficult for you so I hope you can get some help.  Annie
