Mum diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer and very poorly

I'm not sure what to say and i'm feeling a bit lost, my mum has had the worst few years, first being diagnosed with a tumour behind her eye, having to go through surgery, then it came back and in the bone, she has now had her eye removed. Then they discovered cancer in her lungs, genetic, ironically given she smoked all her life.   She was being treated with Pembrolizumab, but that has resulted in v bad side effects and they are now discussing changing her treatment,  all the doctors are saying she is doing well her tumours have shrunk,  but she is just so weak, no energy to do anything,  and I don't know how to help her or what to do,  is this normal,  why don't the doctors seem to be able to give her a good answer?   Also am I wrong in thinking if she has stage 4 and the treatment is not going to extend her life for that much longer isn't she better stopping treatment and having a better quality of life until the end comes?

  • Hi there ... boy your mum has really been through the mill .... l can so see where your coming from ..

Maybe good to get appointment with her oncology team, and put your thoughts to them ... l think I'd feel the same as you ... can you talk to your mum, find out how she feels ... if she wants more treatment or if she's had enough ... so so sad a situation ... cancer is so very cruel... to put it politely... it has no compation ...

Your not alone, there's always someone here to support you, and really do know how hard this journey is ... sending you a big virtual hug brave lady ... Chrissie x
