Hi

My mum has had her cat scan, and was told by the hospital doctor on Tuesday 9th January 2018 that she had shadows in her bones, liver, kidney 2nd lungs and it traveled from her lymph nodes, my mum also has Alzheimer’s disease, we have been referred back to our own doctor which I couldn’t understand it’s like the blind leading the blind, we are finally getting a district nurse in on 24th January 2018. My poor mother is in lots of pain the doctor did give her stronger pain killers and to take 8 a day, instead of year or 6 months the doctor in hospital said Mum had only few months to live. Makes me really angry when we all come under the one area and they tell us we are to return to your own gp. My mum is in a bad way you here lovely stores of help kindness well I don’t have this as we haven’t got the help yet. Mums wish is to go to Blackpool we go on 25th January 2018 let’s hope she is able to get there.

  • Hi Yvonne... so sorry your mum is going through such an unbearable time .. my sister has dementure and it's so hard juggling how to help, and we go into her world .. l cannot imagine what it's like with cancer on top ... my heart goes out to you ...

Please phone McMillan and explain everything ... my brother in law had them when he was in the last months ... and they will listen to you ... know what you need when you phone them, and if it helps write it all down ... there is help out there ... keep pushing till you get it .. l used to volunteer for them, and would visit relatives who just wanted to chat ...

If it were me, l would find info on hospices, and tell them she is in so much pain , they really are lovely places, where all the staff really care ... and they are so good for keeping pain level down ... even if you don't want her to go in one, they may help with info ...

I so hope you get your day in Liverpool... sending you all a massive virtual hug ... Chrissie xx  and for your mum

  • Hello Yvonne.  Sorry you are in this situation and that your poor mum is so ill.  Chrissie is so right when she recommends chatting with MacMillan Cancer Support (Freefone 0808 808 0000); they will understand your frustrations and give invaluable advice.  They should be able to help you with finding the right care for your mum.  Your emotions will be strong and being angry is a normal and frequent reaction to your situation.  If you click on the heading at the top of the screen which says About Cancer you may find some interesting and useful information under the various sub-headings.    Please do come back here to offload your frustrations; we are always interested.

I hope the weather is good on Thursday for your Blackpool trip.  Enjoy yourselves.

  • Hi Chriss & Annieliz Thanks for your kind words and fed back I’ve taken a note of the Mac Millian number and today the district nurse popped in to see Mum and explain quite a lot to me, however I was in tears but I did get Claire to write it all down. I’m so glad I put my post on as you two have both helped me out thank you so much for being part of this group. From Yvonne xx
