Are there any support groups for relatives?

Hi! I’m 31 and my mum first had cancer 2 years ago - she had her Breast removed and 14 lymph nodes ... she has been on chemo ever since as she had a tiny bit of cancer in her lung however over the last 3 months it has now grown in both lungs and in the lymph nodes in her shoulder and neck .... I don’t have anyone to talk too so it was nice to read your stories too

  • Hello,

I'm 28 I will be 29 in April so not much difference in age to you.

Sorry to hear about your Mum. It can be very lonely and hard for us as the patients family to deal with our feelings. We often get forgotten about but it affects us just as much as the patient. I often found that even though friends would try to understand they really didn't have a clue. So turning to places such as this really helped in some ways because we were all here for the same reasons. My Dad had cancer and unfortunately he passed away in August...almost 5 months ago.

You're welcome to msg me any time you like.

  • Hi

There is a support group set up just for families and Its called Cancervive Its run bt a gentleman named Paul who lost two wives to cancer leaving him to bring up his two daughters on his own. He found that at the time there was very liitle or no support for the families of cancer patients so it spurred him to set up the charity. They are based in Hustrspierpoint in Sussex  but the do have a national telephone no 01273 834912.

I have known him for several years and joiuned the charity several years ago. As far as I am concerned he is better than any counciler that I have met for he has been though the loss of a loved one hiself.

Hope this is of help to you both, Brian.

  • Hi I'm 30 and my father in law was diagnosed with cancer of the oesophagus in March last year, he was given 6-12 months. I visit him everyday and help my mother in law out as much as I can with 2 tiny children. I have recently had a baby and I feel like my life is hitting a brick wall and I've got no control on what this illness is doing to my family. I feel so alone and the only thing helping me is comfort eating. I'm so sorry to hear about your mum.
