What does this mean.
Dear Melissa,
Thanks for posting a question.
I tried to find some information I could send you but as I'm not medically trained I decided to forward your post to our nurses who might post a response here when they have a chance. Please keep in mind thought that this might take some time though and if you wish you can telephone them on this free (from the UK) number: 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.
I hope this helps.
All the best,
Renata, Cancer Chat Moderator
Hello Melissa and thanks for posting,
CEA is a body protein called carcinoembryonic antigen which can be measured from a blood test. CEA levels can be raised in several conditions including some types of cancer. Doctors sometimes monitor CEA levels to see what they are doing. The CEA level isn’t necessarily as important as the trend up or down. A CEA level of 300 is above the normal reference range, but I’m afraid I can’t put this into context. This would probably depend on whether the level was going up or down, but it may not shed any additional light on what is already known about someone’s situation.
Please give us a call if you want a chat. We are here from Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm and the number to call is 0808 800 4040.
Best wishes,
Julia
