Lack of info

mum was told the scan looked like a large bowl cancer.  Had in removed by keyhole.  Chronic pain.  Moved to hdu ward.  Told infection.  Week later she was rushed to theatre.  Nurses give me and dad very little information.  My dad has mnd and suspect that is behind it.  May be it is normal for the ward staff to be to busy to explain what’s happening.

How long will it take them to determine what type of tummor it is.  Dad finally found out they are confident it’s all out.  But she developed a abscesses.  Drained and she now has a bag.  May be permanent.  She is under sedation and has a machine breathing for her.  Is that to be expected ?  Is abscess normal risk.

  • Hi Carolyn and welcome to the forum.

It's great to hear that your mum's medical team are confident they have removed everything although I'm sorry to hear she now has an abcess to contend with. If you would like more information maybe you can ask your mum for her permission to talk to the nurses and her medical team about her situation? Once the nurses know you have her permission you may find they are able to talk in more detail about what is going on.

I also wanted to give you our cancer nurses telephone number as they will be in the best position to answer your questions. They're available Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m on 0808 800 4040 so do give them a call when you can.

    Kind regards,
