Hello

My wife Jenny is recovering from bowel resection in August followed by the removal of seven liver “lesions” in October. Post liver surgery was very difficult for Jenny as she had a partial lung collapse & atrial fibrillation. She also suffered acute confusion for four days which was very traumatic. She has been home for almost two weeks and is VERY tired all of the time and has now lost her appetite. On top of that she is becoming quite depressed which is not helped by another CT scan due on Tuesday to check if there has been any movement in the “nodules” seen on her lungs. Aside of the tiredness and lack of appetite Jenny is not interested in anything and finds most pastimes, she previously enjoyed, boring. Any advice would be appreciated Matt

  • Hi Matt... welcome to our little chat room ... all I can say is, everyone copes differently, but we all seem to go through so many emotions, as this cancer journey turns our world upside down ... where, what we looked at as our future is now uncertain... we can feel angry , lost , confused,  isolated... and so much more ... I know I took a couple of days after hearing the word cancer, curled up in a ball, in bed and didn't want to see anyone ... but on the third day snapped out of it and started again to take it on ...

If you can give her space to get her head around it, but staying near till she's ready to reach out ... will help her get back on track and then you may be able to walk this journey together ... just take it slow .. and let her lead the way .... hope that makes sense ... so take care ... chrisie x

  • Thanks for that Chrisie, we are planning to see the Macmillan team tomorrow just before Jenny has her CT scan which may help, giving her some space might help as well Thank you xx

  • Advice... maybe simply to accept that she is tired now, and just think about the positives. And the biggest positive is, I think, that  she was operated on with curative intent. I'm not a medic, so could be wrong, but am fairly sure that if there was no hope of a cure, the surgeons would not have removed the lesions from the liver. And I also know that nodules are something that many people have and are very often benign. So hopefully in 6 months time everything will be looking much better and you can start to recover your normal life. Best wishes. Harry

  • Thanks Harry I will post an update when things change, hopefully for the better Matt
