sad !!

In May 2017 , we recieved the devestating news that my dad, my hero 84yrs, was suffering from Oesophogeal Cancer which has spread to the liver and the lungs.

His decision was not to have medical intervention at his time of life and we have been very lucky to have nearly 7 months with him.

I must be honest,  I have found the deterioration in his health, very difficult but thankfully we are managing to care for his needs at home and but I'm feeling completely overwhelmed by  'sadness' HOW SELFISH DOES THAT SOUND  when so many don't get time with thier loved ones !!  I can't bare to see the decline which for my mother, his soulmate of 52years is torture.

I'm looking on websites to try and find some info on 'signs' the end is nearing ................. wishing his life away

How can i prepare

  • Hi Gwen ... your definitely NOT selfish.... I had one parent go quickly with heart attach, and dad who suffered for a few years with a lung phunmonacosis, from working 45 years down the pits ... although it was harder in the early months with mum, cos we didn’t get a chance to say goodbye, that’s the way she wanted to go ... but seeing our dad so slowly loosing his life was agony .... he didn’t deserve to go like that ...

from what I know bout dad, all I can say is hold his hand, tell him all that’s in your heart, as I wish I’d have told my dad just how proud I was to have him as a dad ... and more ... and I wish I’d have listened to him more, coz at the time, I couldn’t bear him talking about leaving us ...

my heart goes out to you ... and just want to send a big hug ... Chrisie xx

  • Welcome to the forum Gwen although I'm sorry to hear about your dad and the reason you find yourself here.

I know you are looking for information on signs to indicate the end may be nearing so I just wanted to make you aware of a section we have about this on our website. Just click here to find out more but do be aware that it can be a bit of a tough read so do only have a look if you feel you are ready to do so or have someone with you to look through it together.

    I hope this helps Gwen.

    Kind regards,
