Caring for someone

my hubby has had 3 cycles out of 4 Gemcarbo for lung cancer. At first he was coping well but after 3rd lot he was breathless and couldn't walk more than a couple of feet before feeling really ill, as if he would collapse. I called doc and he was sent to hospital. He had a low blood count (79) and was given a transfusion on Tuesday this week. Today he is still quite poorly, has swollen ankles and very pale, has anybody here experienced this and should he have 'picked up' by now ?

  • Hi Lynda,

    Welcome to Cancer Chat.

I am sorry to hear about your husband's experience with chemotherapy and his subsequent need of a transfusion. I am replying to you because I see that nobody has done so yet and you must be very worried about all that is happening.

I am not a medic, but I expect that it will take a little more time for the transfusion to give him a boost. Why not phone the nurses on this site and ask them how quickly he should pick up after this? Their number is freephone and their number is 0808 800 4040.

Please let us know how he gets on. We are always here for both of you, whenever you feel like talking.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
