My mother is currently going through chemo for breast cancer. She has been told not 2 use spas or swimming pools. We have an inflatable hot tub at home and were wondering if she could use that with fresh water before anyone else has been in it?

A warm welcome to our forum, Pmcg.
I'm sorry to hear about your mum and can understand why you are concerned.
Have you tried calling her specialist and asking about the possibility of her going into the inflatable hot tube? They may be the best people to ask for advice as they know her medical history and what may or not pose a danger in her condition.
Alternatively, if you'd like to give our cancer nurses a call and ask that, feel free to ring them on their telephone number 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.

Hello
my husband is having chemo and he uses saunas steamrooms and jacuzzis
hes never has any issues
and has a port in situ too x
My granny was using regular infrared sauna while she was on chemotherapy. She also was swimming a lot, though she was avoiding hot tubs. I heard that hot tub can lead to a greater blood flow to the inflamed areas. Doctors usually prohibit Russians saunas or hot tubs while being on chemotherapy not to make the situation even worse. Moreover, many spas use chemicals into the hot water to destroy bacteria and microbes. It is unacceptable a person on chemo to get into the water where chlorine persists, even in small quantities. All in all, in case she passed the chemotherapy period she ca get into a clean and with no chemicals hot tub.
Hello the moderators have asked the nurse team to post some information.
I think anyone that is receiving cancer treatment needs to discuss the use of hot tubs and spas with their specialist team as it might not be safe to use them because of the risk of infection. With chemotherapy, the potential risk of infection might persist for a short while after treatment finishes. So your Granny's doctors who know all about her and her treatment are the best source of advice.
Take care
