Dad's got pancreatic tumour and spots on liver

It's hard to explain but dads been ill for 2 months with weight loss and constant pain in his stomach. At the moment his in hospital with a saline drip as can't keep anything down as he throws up. Latest bloods say high levels of calcium hence signs of confusion constipation tired dehydration drowsiness etc. Had a private biopsy done 10 days ago but results waiting till tomorrow. It's horrible to see him suffer but nobody can do anything without a plan of care or attack. This is NHS for you when patient suffers or nearly at the end but then can't do anything and the words for them to say are We are Sorry!! is there anyone who can do anything about this. My dads not going to be there long but couldn't earlier referrals and interventions may have saved his life. Urgency in certain cases is never taken as priority!! Will my dad survive will chemo help! Can anyone give me courage and morale to understand that he will be fine so that I can support my wife her wife and family.

  • Hi there ... hope you got your results now ... fingers crossed for you... I’m not sure if it’s relevant but if you need personel help with your dad , I know McMillan had helpers to wash , dress , etc with my bro in law and it really made so much difference...

no one can give you time scale here as every ones different and many of us have lots of “what ifs” all I can give you is, make the most of every day, be it long or short ... and communication between everyone who’s close ... do this as a team ... feelings your having , we’ve all had them too , and feeling overwhelmed is natural... it’s all part of this journey we find ourselves on ... but it takes a little pressure off if you walk this path together... hope that helps a little ... big hug Chrisie x
