Oesophageal Help

Hi

everyone I just wondered if anybody has any information or experience with treatment for recurrence of oesophageal cancer. My dad had surgery earlier in the year to remove the tumour but we got the news today that he has fluid around his lungs and stomach which has tested positive for cancer cells.

Im not really sure what I'm asking but I just felt I needed to ask in case anybody mentions something we haven't already looked at like a trial or new drug etc.

cluthching at straws I know but I felt compelled to ask

thanks

    Hi Rdee,

    Welcome to Cancer Chat.

I am sorry to hear about the recurrence of your Dad's cancer. I am not a medic and I myself have had 2 bouts of primary breast cancer. What I would suggest is that you use the search engine from the blue bar at the top of this page. If you type in 'recurrence of oesophageal cancer', you will find previous posts on the subject which you may find useful.

Do let us know how he gets on. Remember that there is always someone here for you whenever you want to talk.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine

  • Hi,

So sorry to read about your Dad - that must have been a massive disappointment for him. Not something I've had direct experience of as my own OC was inoperable, but technically he will probably be being treated for metastatic cancer which I also have, though in different locations to him.

My own treatment was chemo, but I have known people with secondaries from OC to receive radio therapy. The NHS doesn't seem keen on using surgery for secondaries, though there are some exceptions - my Mum had a liver re-section and her primary was bowel cancer.

I hope things go well for your Dad.

    Best wishes

    Dave
