Very confused

My husband has been having various tests since the middle of June and he was admitted a week ago as he was in so much pain. A week later he has had the fluid drained from his abdomen and I had to beg for someone to tell us what is going on, his doctor and a nurse took us into a room and said that the mass they have found on his liver is secondary and they do not have a clue where it has originated from. They said that he could not be treated as an out patient and he will go and have a biopsy done to confirm which type, but the way things stand at the moment they will not comtemplate chemo due to his bilirubin levels being high. As you can emagine we have cried, but was left with a slim chance of hope. On discharge I was given my husbands discharge letter, with diagnosis of end of life, yantra yatta . I'm just so annoyed with the hospital

    Hi,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. It sounds as if your poor husband has been having a hard time since June. I am sorry that the doctors will not consider chemo, but if his bilirubin level is high, you can understand why they have declined.

You will know more once his biopsy has been taken. Do you make a list of questions that both of you need answers to before you go to see the Consultant? This can be very helpful. It is also good for your husband to always have someone with him when he attends the hospital, as they will remember the answers to these questions better than he will.

It seems as if there has been a lack of communication between yourself and his care team.  I can fully appreciate why you are so angry at your husband having been sent home with a letter stating ‘end of life,’ without hospital staff discussing this with you first of all.

Please keep in touch and let us know how he gets on. There is always someone here whenever you feel like talking.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
