Radiotherapy

my dad is 91 and has had a squamous cell carcinoma removed and had a skin graft on his head.  The quacks have recommended radiotherapy which would last for 2 weeks and by their own admission "would make him quite ill"   The round trip to the hospital would be 3-4 hours and I'm just worried it will weaken him and could potentially kill him   He's extremely healthy and mentally very well. I'm just worried - is this the right thing to do?

  • Welcome to our forum, Mikewilky, although I'm sorry for the reason that brings you here.

I can understand why you're concerned about your dad receiving radiotherapy and how the trip to the hospital could take a toll on him and I wonder if you had a chance to discuss theses concerns with his medical team? It might be a good idea to do so if you haven't done that yet as they're likely to be able to advise you on the right thing to do.

Also, if you feel like talking to our cancer nurses and asking for their opinion, you can reach them by ringing this number 0808 800 4040,  Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Best wishes to you and your dad,
