Cholangiocarcinoma

My husband was diagnosed with this yesterday. Second time to be diagnosed just finished successful three year battle with prostate cancer in April. I don't think he's got any right or strength to go through all of this again!! Not just physically but mentally too. That's just how we add a family feel. He had a stroke last year they say complication of his treatment. How will we do this??? We are devastated

  • I am so sorry to hear about your husband.

I can only relate the experience I have as my partner has this same condition. In her case she is waiting for an operation.

Has your husband been told what treatment he might receive? I'm sure this has come as quite a shock after he has had prostate problems.

I do hope you can both stay positive and I wish you all the best.

    Chris

  • Hi Chris, I've only just come back to this my husband became very ill and was hospitalised, stent fitted and a liver resection followed. 10.5hr op long recovery in ICU and liver unit after. He made it though despite the poor odds sadly it was found in the lymph glands although they believe clear margins taken. Long slow recovery post op. Chemo started just on the first cycle of 8. It's really really bad a bad effect on him even though it's only 80% of dosage. Oncologist and all of us clearly want him to continue but he's struggling so badly both mentally and physically. V&D, can't eat as taste and mouth problems, he had only just started eating properly this last month with steroids which have now stopped, is just going down hill losing weight again. We feel helpless and distraught. Tried all the usual pineapple, mouth wash etc can anyone give done advice on getting his mouth ok and appetite back please!!!

  • Hi Yvonne,

I saw you were seeking advice on how to help your husband's mouth and get his appetite back so I just wanted to give your our nurses telephone number as I think they will be able to help you with this.

Their freephone number is 0808 800 4040 and are available Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m. Alternatively, you can make a new post asking about this in their section of the forum.

    I hope this helps.

  • Hello there -my mom have the same problem too. Can you help me here ?

My mom is a 60 year old , general health good.

On 2016 she underwent extensive liver amputation due to cholangiocarcinoma and in 2018 during hernia repair surgery recurrence of the disease was diagnosed.

She has been under chemotherapy treatments since 2018 (Cisplatin / Gemzar), last dose.

    Increase in markers.

She completed 4 courses of FOLFIRI treatment with an addition of Neulastim.

Increase in markers – and imaging deterioration.

She has been put on weekly Taxol treatment.

    Any recomendations ?
