Bile duct cancer

I wonder if anyone on here has any experiences of this type of cancer. My partner was recently diagnosed with this, and this has come as an utter shock to both of us. She intially had to have an ERCP procedure, where they put a stent in the bile duct. But they also managed to perforate her bowel and put a hole in her pancreas, nice of them!!

We have seen a professor who thinks that he can operate, though it is a very complicated operation. Now we have a definitive answer the situation is a little better. But my partner is still suffering from the initial procedure which almost cost her her life. The doctors in their wisdom decided to leave her in extreme pain for three days, before doing keyhole surgery.

We are hopeful that we overcome this, but I can understand the heart break this horrible news brings

  • Hello Longcliffe,

Welcome to the forum although I'm sorry to hear of the reasons that bring you here.

We have a number of people who have posted here  about experiences of bile duct cancer. If you'd like to have a look through some of the posts then we have a "search forum"  function in the blue bar towards the top of the page. If you search for bile duct cancer the search results will come up.

We have lots of information on our website here that might be helpful. I can see that you've also posted in our Ask the Nurses topic area. They can sometimes take a couple of days to reply but if you'd like to talk to one of them then they are available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

I hope that your partner recovers from her surgery soon. Please do keep in touch and let us know how things progress.

    Best wishes,
