grade 1 breast cancer & opting out of radiotherapy

Hello, my sister was diagnosed with breast cancer after going for a mammogram, she had a lumpectory and although they say to undergo radiotherapy, she has to 10th july to decide and her decison is leaning for NOT doing it. She is grade 1 breast cancer and because of this she asks why go through with radiotherapy. Your views, comments and experience will be really useful and helpful to me as I want to help to get all the facts so she can make the right decision. Thank you so much for your time.

  • Welcome to the forum sistersue although I'm sorry to hear your sister has been diagnosed with breast cancer.

Has you sister discussed this thoroughly with her medical team? If not do make sure she does so she has all the information she needs before making her decision. Maybe you could go with her if she does have an appointment with them so you can find out about the pros and cons of this decision as well.

I know you're looking for information about this and I just wanted to let you know that we have a section dedicated to radiotherapy for breast cancer on our website here if you want to find out more. I would also suggest giving our cancer nurses a call about this next week as they will be able to help you with this as well. Their freephone number is 0808 800 4040 and are available Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m.

I'm glad you've joined Sue as many members here have had breast cancer so will know what your sister is going through at the moment and hopefully some of them will be along soon to offer their support and advice.

    Best wishes to you both,
