Mum has cancer, don't know how to help

My mum was diagnosed with rectal cancer last year which they misdiagnosed as hemorrhoids for 2 years. She had op to remove it and left with colostomy bag. Then they said she had a few tiny spots on her lung. A few months wait to get laser knife therapy, few months wait for results, more spots have appeared on lung. She doesn't know if. It's the same lung as the doctor was in a rush! Now he's on holiday. Her gp on holiday too so she can't discuss results!

Also waiting on biopsy from swollen lymph nodes in groin.

Should they have done more for her like immunotherapy. She's a private patient so I thought things would be faster. Feels like they're just letting it spread.

  • Welcome to the forum Blueberries.

I'm really sorry to hear about your mum's situation and can understand your frustrations and concerns. Many members here have also been in this situation when waiting for their results so will understand what you are going through at the moment and hopefully some of them will post soon to offer their support and share their experiences with you.

Do you know when her doctor will be back? I hope you don't have too long to wait and are able to find out the results soon. Do come back and let us know what happens if you can.

    Best wishes to you both,

  • Hello Blueberries, Would just like to say I am also very sorry to hear about your mum and all she's currently going through and I can wholeheartedly extend my love & support to you and your family during this critical time as you wait patiently for biopsy results. While you are waiting, it may be beneficial for you and your mum to have a look at this free online course titled 'Talking About Cancer' which will help you come to terms with diagnosis, treatment, different types of cancer, the number of cells we have which match the number of different cancers our body can potentially grow to have in the near future. While the word cancer is a very heart-breaking yet frightening subject to begin thinking about let alone speaking about, what you will find is that by choosing to study this course it will help distract you in the best possible way from taking on too much worrying about your mum when you know deep down she is in the best possible place, receiving top-end care and treatment for her condition. Link; www.futurelearn.com/.../introduction I look forward to hearing from you soon, please look after yourself and remember nobody should ever face cancer alone be it a family relative or yourself. Always here to listen! Warm wishes, CarerSarah
  • Thank you both very much for your kind words. Myself, husband and our kids are living with my mother, so we are very involved and on this journey fully with her.

I hate to see her worrying and we are all helpless. All our faith is in the doctors.

I will look at that course right now
