Feeling really heavy and muscles don't want to work

Dad had his second chemo yesterday for stage 4 cancer (EOX Chemo). His first one didn't go well and ended up in a&e 3 times in 4 days. They've given him new anti-sickness pills, and so far so good. But this morning he can hardly move. It's not pain as such, but he feels that his mucles and his entire body won't work so everytime he even rolls over in bed it hurts. He can't even get the pills out of their packet because it hurts his fingers too much. I have heard of brain fog, which he is experiencing this morning. It's all better than the amount of vomit he was bringing up, but is this normal and is there a way of combating it, or is it a case of letting it pass?

  • Hello My partner whose 43 is also in EOX and currently on his 2nd cycle, next cycle next week. He seems to be tolerating it better as time goes by. No sickness but very very tired and weak. He has stage 4 stomach cancer x

  • Hello.

So sorry to hear about your dad.I've had chemotherapy.  The first one I got no side effects at all, but the second one was a different story!

I got something called peripheral neuropathy to the fingers and an " electric " sensation to my legs. With the fingers I couldn't use them properly and they were number and tingling.  This can be a temporary thing or it can actually be permanent.  They had to lowercase dose of my chemo drug and it stopped. I would call the chemo nurses if it's still going on so the doctor can decide what to do with the next dose.

For me with the chemo - I had it on a Wednesday and it took 2 days for a very very heavy fatigue to creep in- like your dad- had to stay in bed , hard to walk.  It was like the whole force of gravity was pulling me down.  Feet started to be sore and skin peeled.  After a few days this feeling improved. Chemo dies seem to give people muscle aches and pains - I do remember getting them.ifvyour dad gers gradually better after a few days - in think this is mostly likely a normal reaction to chemo. It is worth again calling the nurses. They really would rather you talk to them to nip a problem in the bud & reassure you. It sounds like you could do with a bit more support and information of what to expect - as you are his career.

In my experience pick up the phone to the team! I definitely think with the fingers sensation.

I hope your dad is doing better & lucky for him he has you looking after him

Take care & best wishes x
