Worried

My dad was diognosed with bladder cancer and had his bladder removed and a new one built. He was in recovery when they advised the cancer was in his lymphs so he needed chemo for 6 months.

Unfortunately he has reacted awfully to the chemo and has been very ill. The doctors said some people can have bad reactions. he has battled through 3 months of a 6 month course but due to the weight loss and weakness they have decided to postpone for 3 months and review it?

I am worried sick at how much weight he has lost (he is anorexic)

has anyone else experienced this and how did you put the weight back on.

He is on shakes but struggles to drink them without feeling sick and manages the smallest amounts of food.

Any help would be appreciated, I'm so worried

xx

  • Hello Binky35,

I'm so sorry to hear that your dad reacted badly to his chemotherapy treatment and lost so much weight, what a difficult time this must be for all of you.

I know this may sound silly to ask but have you tried speaking to his medical team about your dad's difficulties when it comes to eating and drinking? They will probably know how to best advise you as they know your dad's medical history.

Also, there is a link I wanted to send you with some general information on how to cope with eating and drinking difficulties and maybe that can be of some help: www.cancerresearchuk.org/.../diet-problems

And if you feel like speaking to one of our cancer nurses might help, they are available Monday through Friday, between 9 am to 5 pm and you can ring them on this phone number on 0808 800 4040 which is free of charge from a UK landline.

Best wishes to you and your dad,
