  • Hi.  Your dad is 20 years older than my husband was, when he was also diagnosed with nsclc.  A lot depends on your dad' s general state of health with regards to what treatment he might be able to tolerate.  The Platinum drugs are really tough going. My husband also had cisplatin with vinorelbine.  He was really knocked out by the first cycle of Chemo.  Then he was a bit better prepared for the 2nd and they'd better sorted out his post Chemo medicines.  The nurses will have given you/your dad a list of side effects and explained how maybe 7-10 days after Chemo, you're at your lowest.  Then the idea is that you slowly build up again, before...heading for next Chemo.  It is an ordeal and you can only take it step by step. Your dad should have a phone number for specialist nurses to contact about any symptoms so perhaps you should encourage him to call if only to get some reassurance.  Good luck.

  • HI, My name is John and I was told last Thursday that I had very aggresive tumour in my right lung this had progressed to my Lymph Nodes and Addrenal glads. The end result is I have 2 to 4 months left and had been offered Strong chemo frist week followed by half days of chemo with lesser strength . My problem is they have said it will make me feel quite ill and only a 50 percent chance of it working so do I waste precious time or not take the treatment and use what time I have to better use. I am totally confused and very scared. John
  • Hi john,

im sorry to hear this, but every individual has to make there choice. My mum only has a few months left now but she chose quality of life and refused anymore treatment as it was only gunna make her more poorly and it would probably only buy her a couple more months we as a family stood our mums decisions she's fought as hard as she could as I'm sure you have to, best wishes on what u decide mate but I'm sure you'll do whatever u feel is right for you x
