What happens next?

Hi!

i have today been told that my dad has bowel cancer I'm 25 and he is 57.

he was admitted on Monday and they have already informed him that a operation is a no go. We were expecting a meeting today at the hospital but this didn't happen.

I am am now feeling very confused and anixious as we don't know how long we have or what happens next. They have arranged another meeting tomorrow so I hope this goes ahead so we can have some answers.

what happens now and what happens after this meeting? It's all so very upsetting and I feel helpless.

kind regards

Dan

    Hi Dan,

I am so sorry to hear about your dad. You are both young, so this must have come as a terrible shock. It is so upsetting when you are expecting a meeting with the medical team and it gets cancelled at the last minute. I hope that yesterday’s meeting did take place. Did you get any further information at this?

The consultants are usually very good at giving straight answers provided that you ask the correct questions. You should by now be better informed of what lies ahead. My husband and I always make a list of questions which we want answers to. We take this to our consultation and find it very helpful – don’t worry, many of us do this, so you won’t be the odd one out.

Can you accompany your dad to his appointments? You can help in asking the right questions and also in remembering the answers. This way you should find out more about the type, staging, etc.

I hope that you get more answers soon. Please come back and let us know how it all goes.

    Thinking of you both,

    Jolamine xx
