Small cell lung cancer

hello, i really hope somebone can help or guide me. My brother has been diagnosed with small cell lung cancer. He has one affected lung and lymph nodes have been affected so therefore operative procedures have been ruled out. He has had 4 cycles of Chemo, 3 week radio therapy on chest and as a preventive measure, is currently undergoeing 2 weeks radio on his head. After chemo there has been a 60% reduction of cancer. He is in deapair, feels like he is helpless and is desperate to try new methods to eliminate it further. He is interested about immunotherapy but the health services are not leaning him towatds this route. He feels he could be doing more rather than waiting for it to return. Please can anyone give tips on how he can help himself further? Thank you so much

  • Welcome to Cancer Chat Maurizio,

I'm sorry to hear about your brother's diagnosis but it's great that there has been a 60% reduction of cancer since he has had the chemo. I see you mentioned your brother was interested in immunotherapy but his medical team are not keen. Have they explained why they don't think immunotherapy would be an option? If not do make sure you or your brother have a chat with them to find out.

I think many members here will understand how your brother is feeling having been in similar situations themselves and I'm sure some of them will post soon to offer their support and advice. Our cancer nurses are only a phone call as well if you would or your brother would like to chat to them about this. If you're in the UK you can call them for free on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday (except bank holidays) between 9a.m - 5p.m.

    All the best,
