Hi I'm new here.

My mother-in-law told us on Saterday afternoon after numerous tests that she has cancer in her lung and brain. She's to take steroids for her brain and has to wait for an appointment for doctors etc. Could it be secondary cancer? I'm now worried she's not telling us the whole picture so as not wanting to worry us, I think its just a matter of months than years. She said she's had a good life and is going to lead her life as normal. I was over in her house and she broke down as she's told her close friends, whom she's known for for 62 years. My husband, her son is totally lost he's not sleeping.

I just realised yeaterday that she's not gonna see her granddaughters realise their dreams in their career, their weddings or great-grandkids.

    while I can't comment directly on your Mother in Laws health, my partner was diagnosed 3 weeks ago with Lung Cancer which is secondary in his brain. I understand your feelings about your MIL not seeing her grandchildrens future events as I too cannot cope with the thought of my son not having his dad around as he grows up. I try not to think like that now and when the time comes for my son, we shall deal with him not having dad around together. I guess my mind set is that I can't deal with what's not happened yet if that makes sense. 

    Maybe your MIL doesn't want to share all her news as she's trying not to worry you but maybe explain to her that you need all the facts so you can face it together as a family?
