I googled...

My dad has been diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer.

Everything feels a bit unknown, and so I googled and well that was a mistake. Basically I've read that it's not curable -is that true?

  • Ive no idea about the no cure, but i advise everybody not to google about cancer, its terrifying

  • Hi Gemma,

Stick to the CRUK, NHS and MacMillan websites for any Cancer information. There's an awful lot of disinformation and misinformation regarding Cancer on the net. This CRUK website has information about survival rates at different stages - they can make grim reading but they don't take into account many factors such as age, fitness and co-morbidities.

    Best wishes

    Dave

  • Hi

I have advanced PC, just finished my last treatment ( which was radiotherapy )  I googled the socks off my condition, wanting to know what to expect, but moreover what treatments are out there.

They say it is not curable but treatable, which is true, there are many new drugs that keep us going with more coming out all the time.

Everybody is different, in my case I have metastatic in my shoulder, ribs and pelvis, the pain is ok you get tired but rest when it's needed.

Incurable is not the end of the world, I talk to lots of people same as me who lead good lives 5/6 years later and still going strong.

I am sure whatever your dad is told there is a treatment that will help, if he does not understand what he is told, just try and have some one with him when he sees the urologist there good people with his best interest at heart.

Take care best of luck for your dad

    Joe
